Over the years, I’ve had so many people ask where I’m heading next — who I’m learning from, where I’m painting, or which workshops I’m attending or helping with. I thought it would be helpful to start sharing more of that here, both to answer those questions and to let others know about opportunities they may want to explore as well.
This three-day workshop in March focuses on advanced seascape painting, working on a 24 × 36 inch canvas and diving deeper into the technical side of painting water, movement, light, and atmosphere. These are the kinds of immersive learning experiences I seek out to continue growing as an artist and instructor.
Please note: this particular workshop is currently full, though there is a possibility that additional dates may open. Some workshops fill quickly, while others may still have availability. Whenever possible, I’ll include sign-up links or contact information so you can check directly with the instructor.

This approximately 2-hour class walks you step by step through creating a beautiful scene featuring all of Bob’s favorites: clouds, mountains, lakes, and trees, with plenty of room to make it your own.
This class is intentionally built to be repeatable. While the core elements stay the same, the techniques and approaches will change from session to session. One class might explore creating clouds with a fan brush, while another uses a 1-inch brush. Trees may be built with a fan brush one time and a filbert brush the next. You’ll also experiment with different ways of layering paint, blending color, and controlling pressure — all key skills in this style of painting.
We’ll begin by prepping the canvas with liquid white and talk through how each element builds on the last. Along the way, you’ll learn brush techniques, color blending, and layering methods that become stronger and more natural with repetition. Each class wraps up with guidance on finishing touches — including how to confidently sign your painting.
Whether this is your first time picking up a brush or you’re returning to reinforce the basics, this class helps build a solid foundation that makes future paintings easier, more controlled, and more enjoyable.

Evening at Eagle Lake – Beginner Bill Alexander–Style Oil Painting Class

This class features Evening at Eagle Lake, a classic Bill Alexander–style oil painting known for its warm sunset glow, soft mountain shapes, and peaceful water reflections.
This is a very beginner-friendly project, making it an excellent choice if you’ve never painted before or if you’re looking for a relaxed, confidence-building oil painting experience. We’ll work step by step using traditional wet-on-wet techniques inspired by Bill Alexander’s teaching style.
You’ll learn how to:
Blend a vibrant sunset sky
Create soft mountain silhouettes
Add light reflections on calm water
Build a simple shoreline with trees and texture
No prior experience is needed, and all supplies are included. Class size is kept small so I can provide plenty of one-on-one help throughout the session.
You’ll leave with a finished painting and a solid introduction to Bill Alexander–style oil painting techniques.

Join us on March 31st from 6:30–8:30 p.m. for a beautiful Bob Ross–style landscape inspired by Diane Andre’s Northwest Majesty.
This painting is one of the few episodes that features truly striking aspens — something we know and love here in Colorado. Using the wet-on-wet technique and liquid black, we’ll build dramatic depth, glowing highlights, and those signature tall white trunks that make aspens so eye-catching.
This is a 2-hour class and will be completed on a 16x20 canvas.

We’ll guide you step-by-step through the entire process — from prepping the canvas to signing your finished masterpiece.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance will receive a class credit. Due to supply preparation and limited seating, refunds are not guaranteed within 48 hours of class time.

This piece, April in Ireland, captures the quiet magic of wild dandelions reaching toward the sky, calm waters stretching across the bay, and rolling hills fading into the distance. It’s a painting about perspective, depth, atmosphere — and painting what you love.
Because it’s Hope’s birthday, we’re painting the one that’s been waiting patiently in the “to-paint” folder. No simplifying. No trimming it down. Just a beautiful, immersive landscape done right.

Looking for one-on-one instruction tailored just for you? Private classes are a great way to focus on exactly what you want to work on.
You’re welcome to choose your own project. Whether you’d like to strengthen your Bob-style wet-on-wet skills, revisit foundational techniques, or bring a completely different project you’ve been wanting help with, we can build the session around your goals.
Private sessions are $130 per three-hour class.
I can usually schedule private sessions around my regular class calendar. If you notice I’m traveling on certain dates, those will be unavailable, but otherwise we’ll find a time that works best for both of us.
Supplies:
Depending on the project, supplies may or may not be included. We’ll discuss materials ahead of time and determine what’s needed on a case-by-case basis.

From October 19–31, I’ll be heading to San Luis Obispo, California to attend a series of advanced painting workshops with master portrait painter Mary Carole Larson.
