Moonlit Cascades – Oil Painting Class
Instructor:
Hope Blakely
Saturday
Join us for a peaceful and immersive oil painting class as we create Moonlit Cascades, a serene nighttime landscape glowing under a full moon. This class focuses on atmosphere—soft clouds drifting across the sky, moonlight reflecting on water, and layered silhouettes that bring depth and mood to the scene.
This workshop is beginner-friendly, and no prior experience is required. That said, this is a more detailed painting, so students with some painting experience may feel more comfortable working through the finer elements. Step-by-step instruction will be provided throughout the class, and you’ll be guided from start to finish.
🎨 All supplies are included—just bring yourself (and maybe an apron if you like).
🕙 Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
📍 Location:
107 West 2nd Avenue
Yuma, Colorado 80759
A minimum of 4 students is required for the class to run. If the minimum is not met, students will be notified and offered a refund or transfer to a future class.
✨ Whether you’re brand new to oils or looking to refine your technique, this class offers a relaxing, creative experience—and you’ll head home with a finished painting ready to hang.

May 3 – Beyond the Basics: Bob Ross Style Mountain Landscape
Instructor:
Hope Blakely
Sunday
Step beyond the basics and into a more advanced Bob Ross–style painting experience with this full-day workshop designed to build confidence, skill, and technique.
In this class, we’ll be creating a peaceful mountain landscape featuring dramatic skies, soft rolling clouds, layered mountain ranges, and a quiet open meadow framed by multiple styles of pine trees. This design was created by Hope during a class in Indiana and brings together many of the core Bob Ross techniques in one painting.
This is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of wet-on-wet painting. We’ll focus on brush control, layering, creating depth, and working through multiple elements in a single composition. While this is considered a more advanced class, beginners are absolutely welcome—everything will be demonstrated step-by-step. That said, those with a little Bob Ross experience will feel especially comfortable and may find it easier to keep pace.
This is a longer class, so we’ll take a few short breaks throughout the day. While we likely won’t stop for a full lunch break, you’re encouraged to bring snacks or something quick to eat.
All supplies are included—just bring yourself and get ready for a full day of painting.

Bob Ross Basics Class, May 4th
Instructor:
Hope Blakely
Monday
Join us for a full Bob Ross–style painting experience on a 16×20 canvas — designed for beginners and equally valuable for painters who want to strengthen their foundation. This approximately 2-hour class walks you step by step through creating a beautiful scene featuring all of Bob’s favorites: clouds, mountains, lakes, and trees, with plenty of room to make it your own.
This class is intentionally built to be repeatable. While the core elements stay the same, the techniques and approaches will change from session to session. One class might explore creating clouds with a fan brush, while another uses a 1-inch brush. Trees may be built with a fan brush one time and a filbert brush the next. You’ll also experiment with different ways of layering paint, blending color, and controlling pressure — all key skills in this style of painting.
We’ll begin by prepping the canvas with liquid white and talk through how each element builds on the last. Along the way, you’ll learn brush techniques, color blending, and layering methods that become stronger and more natural with repetition. Each class wraps up with guidance on finishing touches — including how to confidently sign your painting.
Whether this is your first time picking up a brush or you’re returning to reinforce the basics, this class helps build a solid foundation that makes future paintings easier, more controlled, and more enjoyable.
Come ready to paint, relax, and leave with a finished piece — and the confidence that comes from practicing the fundamentals.

MaryCarole Larson Workshops
Oct 19 - 23 and 26 -30, 2026
From October 19–31, I’ll be heading to San Luis Obispo, California to attend a series of advanced painting workshops with master portrait painter Mary Carole Larson. These sessions are often affectionately referred to as paint camp — intense, focused days built around learning, refining skills, and truly digging into the craft of painting at a higher level.
The workshops are designed for artists who want to challenge themselves, learn from a seasoned instructor, and gain insight into advanced techniques used by a master portrait painter. It’s the kind of environment where you’re painting, observing, asking questions, and absorbing knowledge from morning to night — demanding, inspiring, and incredibly rewarding.
At the moment, there are spots still available, but these workshops are limited in size and tend to fill very quickly. If this is something that speaks to you, I always encourage reaching out and checking — even when space is tight, it never hurts to try. I’ll be sharing Mary Carole’s information on this page so anyone interested can look into the opportunity further.
I first met Mary Carole in Georgia, and I’ll be seeing her again there later in November as well, but this California experience is a special chance to learn in an immersive setting and dedicate real time to growth. Trips like this are a reminder of how valuable it is to step outside your routine, learn directly from those who have mastered their craft, and return home with a deeper understanding of painting.
