Do I get to take my painting home after class?Yes — absolutely! You’ll head home with your finished painting at the end of class. Just keep in mind that since most classes use oil paint, your artwork will still be wet. I’ll have a few options on hand to help you transport it safely.
-
🧑🏫 How Do I Know Who's Teaching My Class? Most class sign-up pages will list the instructor — and 99% of the time, that’s me, Hope Blakely. Occasionally, I welcome guest instructors to the studio, such as Jane Jones or Desiree Brandt. If another teacher is leading a class, it’ll be clearly noted on the sign-up sheet. If you’re hoping to take a class with a specific instructor, let me know — I’m always happy to see what I can arrange!
-
🎨 What Happens If I Get Paint on My Clothes?Well... you were warned! 😄 That said, I do keep a few things on hand to help — including Dawn dish soap, Awesome cleaner from the dollar store, and a couple of other tricks that might help lift paint from fabric. Just know that depending on the fabric, color, and amount of paint, you might end up with a permanent little reminder of the fun you had in class.
-
🧽 Will You Clean My Brushes or Materials for Me After Class? If you’re a student, I’ll ask you to do just a bit of cleanup — rinse your brushes and tidy your area — and I’ll handle the rest after class.
-
🔁 What If I Can’t Make It to Class?Life happens — I get it! If you let me know at least 48 hours in advance, I’ll be happy to refund your class fee. However, if it’s less than 24 hours’ notice, I’m afraid I won’t be able to offer a refund. By that point, I’ve already prepared supplies, planned the session, and often rearranged my schedule just for your class. Thanks for understanding — and if something unexpected pops up, just reach out as soon as you can!
-
What medium will I be using? Most of our classes are taught using oil paint, especially those in the Bob Ross style. However, we occasionally explore other mediums like acrylic or mixed media, depending on the class. Be sure to check the individual class listing for specific details on the medium being used — it’ll always be noted there!
-
How old do I have to be?14, I have made exceptions for younger based on conversations with parents PRIOR to class.
-
🌦️ What If There’s Bad Weather? If the weather’s looking risky (especially in winter), I’ll reach out via text or email to confirm whether class is on. If we need to reschedule, your payment will roll over to the new date.
-
Does Bob Ross teach the class? As much as I’d love to say yes — sadly, no. Bob Ross passed away in 1995, so he won’t be joining us in person. However, I’m a Certified Ross Instructor (CRI), which means I’ve trained in Florida and completed the official program to teach Bob’s iconic wet-on-wet technique just as he did. While Bob is no longer with us, his spirit is definitely present — and yes, there’s even a life-size cardboard cutout you’re welcome to snap a photo with after class!
-
Will We Be Using Paint Thinner in Class?I do have paint thinner available in the studio, but it’s rarely needed during class. If you have any sensitivities or concerns about it, please let me know in advance — I’m happy to make adjustments to keep the environment safe and comfortable for everyone.
-
💼 Do I Need to Prepay or Register in Advance?Yes, all classes require pre-registration and prepayment to hold your spot. This helps me plan for supplies and class size. Occasionally, I may make an exception for returning students — but in general, please register online if you want to guarantee your place in class.
-
🖼️ Do You Offer Framing for My Painting?Framing isn’t included in class or commission pricing, but I can offer suggestions for frames that suit your piece — and may even have a few in the studio for purchase or display.
-
Do I need to bring any supplies?Nope — all supplies are included with every class, so you can just show up and paint! I provide everything you need to complete your painting from start to finish. That said, you’re welcome to bring drinks or snacks — classes can run a bit long depending on the pace. Yes, alcohol is allowed, just keep in mind this isn’t your typical “paint and sip” — I’m actually teaching you something while you’re here! If you already have your own brushes, paints, or other materials and would like to bring them, that’s totally fine. Feel free to ask for help reviewing your supplies — I’m happy to take a look and let you know what’s still good to use or how to get the best results from what you have.
-
👕 What Should I Wear to Class ?Wear something comfortable that you don’t mind getting a little paint on. While I do provide aprons and cover-up shirts, accidents happen — and phthalo blue has a habit of making itself at home! So maybe leave the bright white Sunday dress at home.
-
📅 Can I Pick Up My Painting on Another Day?Yes, absolutely. If something comes up or you need to grab your painting another time, just give me a call ahead of time and we’ll make arrangements that work for both of us.

🛋️ Receiving Your PaintingIf you're local, you're welcome to pick up your painting in person — or even stop by and see it during the process! If you're not nearby, no worries — shipping will be added to your final payment.
-
💳 Payment ProcessTo reserve your commission slot and start planning: A 50% non-refundable deposit is required once we’ve discussed size, medium, and reviewed your photos. This secures your place and covers initial materials. When painting begins, a 25% progress payment is due after you receive an update. The final 25% is due when you see your finished painting and love it! 🚫 Not happy with the result? (It hasn’t happened yet!) But if it ever does, you won’t need to pay that final 25%. (you also do not get the painting)
-
⏳ TimelineCommissions take time, especially portraits in oil. Expect several weeks to a couple of months depending on the subject and season. Planning a gift? Reach out early! For example, if it’s September and you want it ready for Christmas, start now. If it’s November... well, ask anyway! Worst case: you’re first on the list for the new year.
-
📷 Can I Use My Photo?Yes – if it's your own photo and it clearly shows the subject. Maybe – if it’s from the internet. Some sites allow free use, others don’t. Caution – if the photo is professionally taken (like school or studio portraits), I may ask for proof you have the rights to use it.
-
🕵️♀️ Can I Commission a Celebrity Portrait?Yes! As long as you have permission to use the reference photo, I’m happy to create it.
-
© Who Owns the Finished Work?I retain the copyright and reproduction rights of the finished painting. If you'd like to purchase full rights to the artwork, you can do so by doubling the commission fee.

❓ More Questions? If you have any other questions, I’m happy to help. Just text or call me at 720-474-1220.

How Does Payment Work for Guest Teachers? We’ll work out a plan that fits your class type, goals, and budget. I’ve had teachers use the space for free, or we’ve agreed on a percentage split, or a flat rate per student or per class — whatever helps you succeed and keeps your class profitable. Let’s talk and find what works best for you!
-
Can I Use Your Supplies If I’m Teaching? As a general rule, no — instructors need to bring their own supplies when teaching in the studio. That said, I’m always happy to share if something gets forgotten, spilled, or left at home. But please plan on providing your own materials for your class.
-
Do I Have to Clean Everything Myself? If you’re an instructor using the space, yes — you’ll be responsible for fully cleaning up after yourself and resetting the studio to the way it was when you arrived. Thanks for respecting the space!
-
🎁 Can I Give a Class as a Gift?Absolutely! I offer gift certificates for painting classes or even for custom commissions. It makes a great birthday, anniversary, or holiday gift — just reach out and I’ll help set it up.
-
How Much Should I Put on a Gift Certificate? The average class runs between $60 and $70, with most priced around $65. If the certificate amount exceeds the cost of the class, the balance can be used toward supplies — but please note, unused funds are not refundable.
