Create the dramatic black-and-white underpainting of this stunning sea turtle in a special full-day workshop taught by Hope Blakely. In this class, students will focus entirely on the underpainting — the powerful monochrome foundation that sets the stage for depth, realism, and future color layers.

This session takes place January 4th, from 10:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m., with a short lunch/snack break to allow drying time. You’ll be working on a 16×16 canvas provided in class, but students wishing to paint on a different size may bring their own canvas with advance notice.

This workshop covers:

• Building structure, depth, and realism using only black, white, and grayscale tones

• Learning how underpaintings prepare a piece for color glazing and advanced finishing

• Creating the full black-and-white version of the sea turtle shown in class
