About the event
This immersive seascape workshop is designed for painters ready to push beyond the basics and explore more complex ocean movement and structure. Inspired by a design from E. John Robinson, this painting features powerful crashing waves, rocky outcroppings, and distant forms that fade naturally into the sky.
Throughout the day, we’ll focus on creating believable water movement, layering wave detail in the foreground, and learning how to let rocks and landforms dissolve into atmosphere near the horizon—an essential skill for realistic seascapes. You’ll also work on blending transitions that keep the painting dramatic without becoming overworked.
This is a small, tight-knit class limited to just six students, allowing for plenty of one-on-one instruction and guidance. We’ll paint on an 11×14 canvas panel, and all supplies are included.

Please wear clothing you don’t mind getting a little paint on. All painting supplies are included. We will take a 30-minute lunch break, so feel free to bring a small lunch or snacks, or have food delivered (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.). I’ll give you plenty of notice on when a good time to order will be. You’ll be taking home a wet oil painting, so plan ahead for transport. A pizza box (14″ or larger) works great for safely carrying paintings of this size.
